How reasonable accommodations can help your business

A reasonable accommodation is a modification to a job, work environment, or the way work is performed that allows an individual with a disability to apply for a job, perform the essential functions of the job and enjoy equal access to benefits available to other individuals in the workplace.

  • Most accommodations cost nothing, and for those that do, the average one-time cost is $500.
  • In a recent study, 75% of employers reported that accommodations were very effective or extremely effective.
  • The most frequent benefits employers experience after providing accommodations include the following:
    • The accommodations allowed the company to retain a valued employee.
    • The accommodation increased the employee’s productivity.
    • The accommodation eliminated the costs of training a new employee.
