Everything about our world is digital these days, which means that all of it needs to be accessible, too.
Join us for a one day crash course that will teach you everything you need to know about how to make sure your online content is accessible.
As many as 1.2 million South Carolinians with disabilities may find it difficult or impossible to buy your goods, read your blogs, watch your videos, purchase your services, as well as use your interfaces to create and share, if your content is not created and published in an accessible way. That means that your websites must be coded correctly, your videos and livestreams must have closed captioning, your images must have alt text, your writing must be in plain language, and more.
The Expanding Access through Technology conference will focus on how to make sure people with and without disabilities can access your online content. We will teach you all of the basics on creating accessible online content in a simple, straightforward way, that will leave you feeling confident to apply these practices to your own business!
Who should attend? Anyone who studies/works in web development, marketing, communications, social media, etc., or anyone who runs an online shop or business!
ASCIT, or Access South Carolina IT, was established in 2000 as a result of a request to state legislators from the National Federation of the Blind of South Carolina who needed assistance in getting the Employment Security Commission to provide accessible computers for people who are blind.
Since 2000, the work of ASCIT has continued in a more informal network of state agencies, education institutions, disability organizations, and members of the private sector. Many trainings have been offered through the years, some in conjunction with other state training initiatives. ASCIT developed the SC Web Testers Program, now administered by Able South Carolina.
ASCIT’s vision is to see South Carolina lead the way in digital accessibility and inclusion issues. This event is led by a community of digital accessibility specialists made up of:
